Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient art which focuses on the body to address the ills of present day society and the various ways these can affect a person, both physically and mentally. It is an ancient form of general manipulation and therapeutic massage.
The combination of Yoga, Reflexology and Acupressure makes it a very unique healing art which is based on the theory of the 72000 Sen or Energy Lines (comparable to the Ayurvedic Nadis and Chinese Meridians) that run through the body. These Sen are the passage for energy - and it is now known that the lines correspond with blood vessels in the body. When these Sen lines become blocked, the energy becomes stagnant and the body loses its balance, allowing disease to set in. Essentially it's a form of passive Yoga where the therapist, through using ancient techniques, is able to promote flexibility, massage the inner organs, increase blood oxygenation and ultimately provide a deeply relaxing experience.
Working on the floor, with the client fully clothed, a full session includes four different positions: lying on the back, on the sides, on the stomach, sitting.
For shorter sessions two or three positions will be selected according to the needs of the client. Deep pressure is applied on key points along the energy lines to free the body of tension blockages; synchronized stretching movements are performed to achieve flexibility, the opening of joints and balancing of the muscles. The pressure on feet and legs is sedating, while a slight degree of "good pain" might be felt where blockages are held, and at the end of a session both client and practitioner should feel relaxed and energized.
Thai Massage is one of the most beneficial therapies for treating physical and psychological problems, mantaining health and wellbeing.
For centuries Thai Massage has treated the mental, physical and emotional imbalances of the body which lead to dis-eases. It is believed that the massage art was brought over to Thailand by Juvaka Kumar Bacca, known as Dr Shivago, who was the physician of the Buddha some 2500 years ago and handed this form of healing down orally. Thai Massage was originally performed in Thai Temples and is still part of the medical practice in Thailand.
